How to get started.
How do I request a quote?
Use our quote form, email info@pinnaclesignworks.ca, or call 604-786-3007. Send whatever you have — a panel schedule, a CSV, a photo of a list, a sketch. We'll come back with a clear price and a realistic timeline, usually within one business day.
What information do you need to give me a quote?
The more we have, the more accurate the quote. Helpful info:
- The type of label or sign (panel labels, valve tags, pipe markers, etc.)
- Approximate quantity
- The text or list of items
- Preferred size and material — if you know them
- Mounting method (adhesive, screws, magnets, chain, etc.)
- Your project deadline
If you only know some of those, send what you have. We'll ask the rest.
Can I send a hand-drawn list, photo, or sketch instead of a formal panel schedule?
Yes. We work with whatever you send us — panel schedules in PDF, CSVs from your project software, photos of hand-written lists, sketches on a napkin, emails with bullet points. The job of figuring it out is ours, not yours.
Do you need CAD files to engrave a label?
No. CAD is welcome if you have it, but we don't require it. A list with the wording, sizes, and colors is enough for most jobs. For custom shapes or precise cutouts, a dimensioned sketch or photo of an existing label is all we usually need.
What if I don't know exactly what material I need?
That's normal — most customers don't, and that's fine. Tell us:
- The environment (indoor, outdoor, wet, hot, chemical exposure)
- How the label will be mounted
- Any code or standard it has to meet
We'll recommend the right material and finish for the job.
Can I see samples before I commit to a full order?
Yes. For larger jobs or anything where the look matters, we can produce a sample for your review before running the full batch. Talk to us when you request the quote and we'll work it into the timeline.
What we make, and what it's made of.
What materials do you engrave on?
Our standard stock:
- Engraving plastics — Lamacoid, Gravoply, two-ply phenolic, traffolyte
- Metals — aluminum (anodized and bare), stainless steel, brass
- Outdoor / UV-stable substrates for facility and wayfinding signage
- Industrial-grade vinyl and polyester for printed labels, pipe markers, and decals
What's the difference between Lamacoid and Gravoply?
Both are two-ply engraving plastics — a coloured top layer over a contrasting core. Lamacoid is the historical Canadian brand name; Gravoply is the equivalent from Gravotech. In practice they look and perform the same and are often used interchangeably. We stock both and will use whichever fits the size, colour, and quantity you need.
Why do I see lamacoid spelled different ways?
Lamacoid is the most common spelling, but customers regularly write it as lamicoid, lammacoid, limacoid, lamacoyd, or pluralize it as lamacoids or lamicoids. They all refer to the same two-ply engraving plastic — and we'll know exactly what you mean no matter how you spell it.
You'll also hear the same product called Gravoply, engraving phenolic, traffolyte, or just engraved plastic labels depending on the trade. If you're not sure what to call it, describe the label you need and we'll match you to the right material.
What's a phenolic label and when should I use it?
Phenolic is a tougher two-ply engraving stock with higher heat and chemical resistance than standard Lamacoid. It's the right choice for harsh industrial environments — high-temperature panels, chemical plants, mining, oil and gas, and outdoor electrical equipment. Costs a little more but lasts much longer in tough conditions.
Can you engrave on stainless steel or aluminum?
Yes. We laser-engrave both, and we also produce anodized aluminum data plates with high-contrast laser-marking — the standard for equipment ID plates, asset tags, and serial number plates that need to survive years of wear.
What colors are available for engraved labels?
Common combinations we stock for fast turnaround:
- Black on white
- White on black
- White on red (danger / arc flash)
- Black on yellow (caution / warning)
- White on blue
- White on green
- Black on orange
Less common colors can be ordered in as needed — just tell us when you request the quote.
What sizes can you produce?
From tiny wire tags under half an inch to full-size warning signs and wayfinding panels. Most engraved labels fall in the 1″ × 3″ to 4″ × 8″ range. Larger formats are available — let us know the size and we'll confirm fit.
How are labels typically mounted to a panel?
The most common mounting methods:
- 3M adhesive backing — foam or VHB for textured surfaces, smooth-back for flat metal
- Through-holes with screws
- Mechanical clips for equipment ID plates
- Magnets for temporary placement
- Beaded chain for valve and equipment tags
We'll recommend the right method based on the surface and environment, and apply the backing at our shop so your labels show up ready to install.
Codes, specs, and inspection.
Do you produce labels that meet CSA Z462 arc flash requirements?
Yes. We produce arc flash warning labels that meet CSA Z462 content and durability requirements, including the standard incident energy / PPE category formats used by electrical contractors and consulting engineers across BC. Send us the data and we'll produce labels ready for installation.
Are your safety signs compliant with ANSI Z535?
Yes. We produce DANGER, WARNING, CAUTION, and NOTICE signs that follow ANSI Z535 colour, formatting, and signal-word conventions. We can match existing site signage standards or produce your own custom layouts within the standard.
Can you produce labels for utility, BC Hydro, or FortisBC specs?
Yes. We've produced identification and warning labels for utility work across BC for years. Send us the spec sheet or sample and we'll match the format, materials, and mounting required by the inspecting authority.
Do your labels meet electrical inspection requirements in BC?
The labels we produce for electrical contractors are made to support BC inspection requirements — proper materials, durability, contrast, and content as called for by the Canadian Electrical Code and local AHJs. Final compliance is always the responsibility of the installing contractor and inspector, but our materials and formats are built to support that.
Are your materials UL recognized or fire-rated?
Many of the engraving plastics we stock — including standard Lamacoid / Gravoply and phenolic — are UL recognized. If your job requires a specific UL listing, fire rating, or other certification, tell us when you quote and we'll confirm material availability before we proceed.
What it costs, and how we quote.
Is there a minimum order?
Our minimum order is $40 before tax. You can still order one label or a small quantity — but every order still requires order review, setup, material handling, production, cleanup, packing, invoicing, and communication. The minimum order helps us keep small jobs efficient while still giving them the attention they deserve.
What is the design, setup, or layout fee?
The design, setup, or layout fee covers the work required before production. This can include:
- Reviewing the order and checking the details
- Preparing the layout and formatting text
- Adjusting sizing and spacing
- Confirming material and colour
- Setting up the production file
- Preparing proofs when needed
Even small label orders need careful setup so the final product is accurate, readable, and produced correctly. This fee helps cover the pre-production work that protects quality and reduces mistakes.
Do you charge setup on repeat orders?
For simple repeat orders, setup can often be waived when we're using the same approved layout, same size, same material, and only changing text or numbering. If the layout, size, material, spacing, holes, or proofing requirements change, setup may still apply.
How is pricing calculated?
Pricing depends on:
- Material (Lamacoid, phenolic, aluminum, stainless, vinyl, etc.)
- Size and engraving area
- Engraving complexity and time
- Mounting and finishing (adhesive backing, screws, holes, chain)
- Quantity
Per-piece cost drops significantly at higher volumes because setup is shared across more pieces. For repeat orders of the same item, we'll keep your job on file so reorders are faster and cheaper.
Do you offer volume discounts on large jobs?
Yes. Higher quantities — whether on a single project or on a recurring order — get better per-piece pricing because we can batch engraving runs and consolidate setup. Send us your projected quantities and we'll quote tiered pricing.
How does payment work?
For new customers, we typically invoice on completion with net-30 payment for established trade and industrial accounts. For first-time orders we may ask for payment on delivery or a deposit on larger jobs. We accept e-transfer, cheque, and direct deposit.
Why do you charge GST and PST?
Most engraved labels, tags, plates, lamacoids, and signage products are finished physical goods. Since Pinnacle supplies these products and does not install them as part of a real property construction contract, GST and PST are charged where applicable.
If your company has a valid PST exemption number, resale number, or applicable exemption documentation, please provide it before invoicing so we can review it and apply the correct tax treatment. Tax treatment may depend on customer type, location, and exemption status.
Can you remove PST from my invoice?
PST can only be removed when proper exemption information is provided before invoicing. If you have a valid PST exemption number, resale number, or exemption documentation, please send it with your order or purchase order so we can review and apply the correct treatment.
Will my quote include shipping?
Shipping and local delivery are quoted separately. For Lower Mainland deliveries we use flat zone-based rates — see the Delivery section below for zones and pricing. Courier and freight to the Island, Interior, Alberta, or beyond are quoted at cost based on weight, destination, and timing. Pickup is always free.
How fast, and where to.
What's your typical turnaround time?
For many small standard orders, we can usually complete production within 3 to 5 business days after all details are confirmed.
Larger orders, complex layouts, special materials, proof-heavy jobs, or busy production periods may require more time. When you request a quote we give you a realistic timeline up front — and we hit it.
Do you handle rush jobs?
We always try to avoid rush charges when possible. If your order can fit into the current production schedule, we'll do our best to complete it quickly without adding extra charges.
Rush charges only apply when an order needs to jump the queue, requires overtime, creates extra coordination, or needs special courier handling.
- Standard turnaround: no rush charge.
- 2-day rush: rush charge may apply.
- 1-day rush: rush charge may apply, and custom courier costs may apply if needed.
Call us with your deadline and we'll tell you honestly what's possible — and what (if anything) it will cost.
Where do you ship?
Anywhere in British Columbia and Alberta:
- Lower Mainland
- Vancouver Island
- Sunshine Coast and Coast Mountain regions
- Okanagan and BC Interior
- Calgary, Edmonton, and other major Alberta markets
We work with standard couriers and freight carriers, and we'll quote whatever speed of delivery your project needs.
Can I pick up locally?
Yes — pickup is free. Once your order is ready, we'll share the pickup location and instructions. Pickup is available during business hours (Monday–Friday, 8am–5pm).
What are your local delivery zones and rates?
Flat-rate local delivery across the Lower Mainland:
- Zone 1 — $20: Coquitlam, Port Coquitlam, Port Moody, Burnaby, New Westminster.
- Zone 2 — $40: Vancouver, Richmond, North Vancouver, West Vancouver, Surrey (except South Surrey), Delta, Pitt Meadows, Maple Ridge.
- Zone 3 — $60: Langley, South Surrey, White Rock, Tsawwassen, Abbotsford, Mission.
Custom delivery: remote deliveries, oversized orders, rush courier requests, unusual delivery requirements, or deliveries outside the regular zones may require a custom quote. Just ask and we'll sort it out.
What happens if there's an error on a label?
If we made a production error — wrong text, wrong color, wrong material against the approved order — we re-make it on us, on a priority schedule. If the error was in the original list we engraved from, we'll re-make the affected pieces at our cost plus material. We'd rather have a happy customer than win a $40 argument.
